Help Save Pets was originally founded as the Humane Society of Plainfield in 2000 by director Meg Kremer, wife of Dr. Anthony Kremer. Dr. Kremer would periodically be called to animal control to euthanize animals that were unclaimed. The animals that were being euthanized were often viable, friendly and simply in need of somebody to help them get into a good new home. Dr. Kremer would at times bring these animals back to the Animal Care Center in Plainfield to see if a home could be found among the veterinary clinic clients. As the frequency of this practice increased, it became clear that a separate non for profit organization was needed to continue rescue work.

Since 2000, they have placed over 10,000 animals into loving homes. Each one of these animals was given shelter, food, medical aid and vaccinations and time to find the right home. Their doctors mended mutilated limbs and cured many illnesses so that these animals could get a second chance at good lives.

Help Save Pets is dedicated to their mission of saving and finding homes for dogs and cats about to be euthanized at animal control facilities. Their unique structure allows them to run an effective rescue at minimal expense, with the majority of their funds directly used for the care of dogs and cats.

SPEAK! for the Unspoken is a registered 501(c)(3) pet rescue located in the Columbus, Ohio area. They are a small foster based rescue, devoted to animal rescue and specializing in special needs rescue and education. They focus our rescue efforts on special needs dogs and cats, specifically double merle Australian Shepherds that are born with vision and/or hearing deficits due to their poor breeding. They believe special needs dogs are capable of living happy and healthy lives, and until the careless breeding stops, we will continue to find these special dogs the homes they deserve. They are a foster based rescue so all of the animals in their program are living and cared for in a loving home.

SPEAK! is committed to proving that “special needs” dogs are just as capable as “normal” dogs. Special needs dogs, such as double merle australian shepherds, are the result of irresponsible merle to merle breeding. Many other breeds also contain this recessive gene and when bred improperly, can result in blindness, deafness, or both. Twenty-five percent (25%) of puppies born as a result of this type of breeding, are born with sight or hearing deficiencies.

It’s dogs like these that hold a special place in their heart! They work hard to educate the public about irresponsible breeding and we foster and rescue the special needs dogs to make sure they can live a happy life regardless of their impairments.
